It’s Friday, October 16, and the new music keeps coming. We already picked Fontaines D.C., Zach Bryan, The Avalanches and Eels in our first New Music Friday list for this week. Here are five more releases worth your time, from British alt-pop to French-language dance pop, a modern classical epic and a guitar legend.

1. Seven No 6 – “Generation Energy”

Every New Music Friday includes a pick from the illuminet catalog, and this week it’s “Generation Energy” from Seven No 6. Turn it up with the official lyric video below, then dig into the full Seven No 6 playlist and the Seven No 6 page here on StarShot.

2. Rachel Chinouriri – I Think I Spoke Too Soon

The English singer-songwriter’s second studio album is out today on Parlophone. It follows her 2024 debut, What a Devastating Turn of Events, and runs 12 songs. The record opens with “One Song Away From Crying” and also includes the single “Broken Chair.” The album follows a wild night out and its aftermath, and digs into sobriety, identity and life in her mid-twenties.

3. Max Richter – While the Flood Rages

The Oscar-nominated composer’s new album arrives today on Decca Records. It grew out of MaddAddam, his ballet collaboration with choreographer Wayne McGregor, which is inspired by Margaret Atwood’s trilogy of the same name. The album has 15 tracks split into three acts and mixes orchestra, choir, piano, electronics and field recordings. It ends with the single “Now We Can Sing.” Put this one on with good headphones and the lights down.

4. Angèle – Instinct

The Belgian pop star’s third studio album lands today with 13 tracks and some big guests: Justice on “What You Want,” Soulwax on “Trop,” and Caroline Polachek with French DJ SebastiAn on “Love Triangle.” The singles “Dis-le” and “Une seule vie” are already out. Even if you don’t speak French, the beats do the talking.

5. Richard Thompson – Hippies, Thugs and Heroes

The Fairport Convention co-founder is back with his 20th solo album, out today on New West Records. Thompson recorded it live with his longtime band at Hobosound Studio in Weehawken, New Jersey. It opens with the jangly “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and early reviews from Mojo and Uncut have been glowing. Guitar fans, this one’s for you.

Which one are you playing first?
