Jason Statham is coming back to theaters in three months with one of his best franchises, and the new installment is taking the R-rated action thriller series to the next level. From early in his career, the martial arts-trained actor has proven that he’s more than capable of entertaining audiences by kicking butt and saving the day from various threats.

This has meant a continuous flow of Jason Statham action movie franchises over the decades. Crank and Transporter were among his earliest reliable hits. Fast & Furious, The Expendables, and The Meg became part of his move into bigger, more ridiculous and explosive blockbusters in the 2010s.

His proven track record at the box office has meant studios keep giving him opportunities to launch new franchises. Movies like Parker and A Working Man were made in the hopes of turning successful book series into IP that Statham could return to for multiple installments. Wrath of Man and Mutiny are recent examples of original works that could have received sequels if they did better commercially.

While Statham’s upcoming movies list includes more new franchise starters, he’s also coming back to his most recent success story. Three months from now to the day, on January 15, 2027, the action star returns as Adam Clay for The Beekeeper 2, the second installment in the original series that started in 2024.

It was over two years ago that Statham introduced audiences to one of his best characters in The Beekeeper. He portrays Adam Clay, a former assassin for the Beekeepers, a secret organization. Like many of Statham’s action heroes, he’s a no-nonsense, elite killer who steps out of the shadows to get revenge on those responsible for the death of someone close to him.

The Beekeeper, directed by David Ayer, proved to be exactly what audiences wanted from Statham. The movie made $162 million worldwide after coming out against minimal competition in January 2024. The results made it very easy for Amazon MGM to confirm plans for this standalone movie to become a true franchise, with The Beekeeper 2 entering development officially a year later.

Now, The Beekeeper 2 is set to hit theaters on January 15, 2027. Ayer did not return to direct the sequel, with Nobody‘s Timo Tjahjanto taking over those responsibilities. Joining Statham as returning cast members are Emmy Raver-Lampman, Jeremy Irons, Jemma Redgrave, and Bobby Naderi. Pom Klementieff, Yara Shahidi, and WWE star Adam Copeland round out the ensemble.

The Beekeeper 2 Looks Even Better Than The First Movie

To commemorate being three months out from the franchise’s return, Amazon MGM celebrated in style by officially dropping the first The Beekeeper 2 teaser trailer. While the runtime is shorter than some might like, it is packed with footage that does an excellent job of hyping up Clay’s return. For as fun as the first movie was, The Beekeeper 2 looks like a step-up in many departments.

The sequel is set to pit Statham’s assassin against an entire fleet of rogue Beekeepers, seemingly led by Klementieff’s new character. She’s seen dishing out her fair share of violence in rather entertaining fashion, while Statham gets some standout sequences too, such as whipping a minigun out of his car and blasting an enemy’s entire head with a flamethrower.

Perhaps this is just a great example of Amazon editing together a thrilling one-minute teaser, but the signs are here that The Beekeeper 2 will deliver. If it does, then this won’t be the last time audiences see Clay take on the Beekeepers and other threats. It’s a role that Statham should be able to return to for years to come, giving him his own John Wick-like franchise.
