In 2024, the Vikings went into the bye-week with a perfect 5-0 record, and two years later, here we are again. In that 2024 season, Sam Darnold led his team to a 14-3 record (and a first-round exit in the playoffs), so while we may expect the Vikings make the playoffs this season, we are all hoping for a better post-season fate this year.

In the meantime, however, it is the Vikings’ bye-week and time for our annual Vikings bye-kus. It’s a mid-season chance to show your knowledge of the Vikings and your poetic prowess at the same time.

You may recall the haiku format we use here: a three-line poem with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second line and five again in the third. Plus, to make it a little more interesting (and challenging to craft) the bye-ku’s must contain some allusion to the natural world. That is the form’s tradition, and one we work to replicate here.

So, check out ours below and send in your own. We’d love to see them. Have a great bye week dreaming about Purple victories and writing bye-kus, and we will see you each week on Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast. Skol!

Vikings Bye-Kus

5-0 at the bye
A record atop the world
Hoping that it lasts

Same as in 2-4
Led to 14-win season
That died in desert

JJ went away
Carson meanwhile made some hay
Kyler is the guy

K1 pass to Jets
Throw and catch that shook the earth
Jets’ hometown Griddy.

Jones the E. Bunny
Shoulders ground load for the squad
This bye is his friend.

B-Flo’s blitz crazy
To harass and thwart QBs
Twist them to the turf.

Defense plays lights out
Given up just six touchdowns
They just stand their ground.

Will Reichard’s right leg
Reliable as sunrise
Scores ‘til offense wakes.

Kyler’s short but quick
Slow start at Vikes, but rising
Like Phoenix in Minn.

Injuries piled up
Most will return after bye
Help sail league waters

KO 5-0 twice
An omen we like to see
Playoff pay-dirt please!

Let’s hear from you, Vikings fans! Give us your best Bye-ku in the comments!
