Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet has identified an unexpected culprit behind his team’s winless start: Defensemen who are simply “too horny.”
After a 3-2 shootout loss to the Seattle Kraken, Tocchet fielded questions about forward Trevor Zegras’ reference to “scooter skating.” The term describes a defenseman delaying entry on a rush, then accelerating at the right moment to create space.
Tocchet noted that strong teams time the fourth man perfectly. The Flyers, he said, have not.
“I can say it, they’re too horny, right?” Tocchet said. “They get up in the play, and they get too… so you have to just slow your skating down. The delay comes and then you scoot your skating, so you time it right, and then you get your shot. We were getting in too close.”
