Daniel Dubois retained his WBO heavyweight title with a devastating second-round stoppage of Fabio Wardley at London’s O2 Arena, leaving his British rival without a chance.

Dubois wasted no time taking control, dropping Wardley in the opening seconds before unleashing a relentless assault that left the challenger struggling to find his footing.

Wardley tried to fight back, but the champion gave him little chance to recover. By the end of the first round, it already looked as though the contest could be stopped at any moment.

The second round brought more punishment as Wardley attempted to regain his composure. Dubois refused to let him breathe, piling on the pressure with massive combinations.

A devastating attack toward the end of the round forced Wardley’s corner to throw in the towel as referee Steve Gray intervened.

It was a brutal ending to a heavyweight rematch that had promised far more competitive action. Wardley simply had no answer to the champion’s relentless pressure and punching power.

Dubois retained his championship in emphatic fashion, once again proving his destructive punching power and sending a warning to the rest of the heavyweight division.

For Wardley, the defeat raises serious questions about his future. On the evidence of the punishment he took, it could be the end of the road for Fabio at the highest level.

Heavyweight Statement

Dubois needed less than six minutes to settle the rivalry and retain his world championship.

There was no feeling-out process, no cautious opening and certainly no chance for Wardley to establish himself in the contest.

The champion came out looking for the finish and never allowed his opponent to recover from that disastrous opening.

Wardley showed plenty of heart in attempting to fight back, but the punishment continued until his corner had seen enough.

Dubois now moves forward with another destructive victory behind him, while Wardley faces a difficult period of reflection following a devastating night in London.

A potential unification is already on the table after IBF champion Filip Hrgovic was called into the ring by Frank Warren and offered Dubois a fight in March.

Undercard Results

Elsewhere on the card, Louie O’Doherty and Michael Gomez Jr. fought to a controversial majority draw, despite WBN scoring the contest 117-111 for Gomez.

Bakhodir Jalolov dominated Solomon Dacres on points, while Nelson Birchall stopped Levi Giles in seven rounds.

Adam Olaniyan, Tony Curtis and Zayn Ahmed also recorded stoppage victories on a busy night at the O2 Arena.

The main event, however, belonged entirely to Dubois, who made another successful defense of his WBO heavyweight crown in devastating fashion.
