This will be the last season for the Signature Symphony of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The orchestra has been playing since 1978.

From the announcement:

The decision to close the Signature Symphony follows a financial review that included operating costs, ticket sales, and concerns about long-term sustainability. The closure will affect approximately 70 part-time, contracted professional musicians and four staff.

Conductor Scott Seaton writes:

‘It has been one of the great privileges of my life to serve as its artistic director and conductor. I am deeply saddened by what this loss will mean for our musicians, staff, audiences, students around Tulsa, and the many people who have invested their time, resources, and hearts into this orchestra and its place in the Tulsa community.

‘At the same time, I have been enormously moved by the response of our community. In just the past few days, I have heard from so many people who care deeply about Signature Symphony, our musicians, and the distinctive experience we have worked to create together—one that seeks to break down musical boundaries, brings different traditions and voices into conversation, and continually reimagines what an orchestral concert can be. That outpouring of support is a powerful reminder of just how much this orchestra means to so many.

And there is still music to make.’
