Rebecca Hanna-Grindall (pic), the Southbank Centre’s director of arts, planning and producing, is going to Rambert dance company as chief executive. She succeeds Helen Shute, who has led Rambert since 2017 and now becomes chief executive of English National Opera.

Serious music at the South Bank has been decimated on Rebecca’s watch, while ENO has become an infrequent London-Manchester shuttle. None of these companies is in good shape, but who cares so long as the top people keep their top jobs?

It helps also to have the same old faces around the board table where these appointments are made.
