Gunther’s direction on WWE SmackDown is reportedly raising questions behind the scenes, with some members of the creative team unsure how the company intends to build on his recent momentum.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, there has been “mild frustration and confusion” over his recent use. A source indicated that his booking has prompted discussion within creative, particularly after his string of retirements and move to SmackDown.
The report suggests there is uncertainty about what comes next for Gunther, including whether WWE had a clear plan for him after he retired John Cena.
Cena recently addressed criticism of Gunther’s booking during an appearance on Busted Open Radio. He acknowledged the concerns but explained that he does not know what WWE has planned.
He suggested that the company could be deliberately cooling Gunther off or temporarily keeping him away from television. Those were possible explanations from Cena, rather than confirmation of WWE’s intentions.
