In the main event of UFC Fight Night Edmonton, Mike Malott secured a devastating knockout victory over Joaquin Buckley at the 2:32 mark of the second round.
In the first round, both fighters demonstrated their experience in the cage, with neither side facing any significant danger. Buckley managed to land strikes at close range, countering many of Malott’s high kicks.
In the second round, Malott threw a kick toward Buckley’s head, followed by a knee that struck Buckley squarely on the jaw.
As Buckley continued to throw combinations, Malott finished the exchange with a powerful punch, leaving him unconscious and face-down on the canvas.
For 34-year-old Malott, this marked his seventh fight in Canada. The win extends his streak to five consecutive victories in the welterweight division, cementing his status as Canada’s top representative in the UFC.
Buckley, 32, has now lost his last three bouts, following previous defeats to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady.
In the co-main event, local fighter Jasmine Jasudavicius pulled off an upset against Erin Blanchfield, positioning herself as a potential contender for the next women’s flyweight championship opportunity.
Jasudavicius took the initiative from the start, never allowing Blanchfield to figure out the fight. She secured a unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the bout 29-28 in her favor.
Jasudavicius has won seven of her last eight fights, while 27-year-old Blanchfield suffered only the second defeat of her UFC career.
